Today, I was joined by Coalville officer PC Dawson following a report from Ashby School that an elderly male, living with dementia, had gone for a walk and become lost.

The male didn’t have any identification on him. Thanks to the quick actions of Head Teacher Dr Mellor and her team — who brought him inside, ensured he felt safe, and looked after him with a cup of tea — we were able to safeguard him while enquiries were carried out.

With the support of Sgt Bell and Sgt Fletcher, we were able to successfully reunite the gentleman with his family 💙

🧠 Dementia Awareness

Dementia can affect memory, orientation, and the ability to recognise familiar places. It’s not uncommon for someone living with dementia to become lost or confused, even in areas they know well.

✅ What to do if you find someone who appears lost or confused:

Approach calmly and speak clearly

Ask simple questions (name, if they’re okay, where they’re trying to go)

Stay with them in a safe place

Contact police on 101, or 999 in an emergency

Check for any ID, medical bracelets, or contact details

Offer reassurance — this can make a huge difference

Your actions could help reunite someone with their loved ones.
